Launching a Digital Future: Broadband Expansion in Eight Prefectures in Albania under the EU’s WBIF Initiative

aconiu Albania, engaged under the Western Balkans Investments Framework/Infrastructure Project Facility Technical Assistance 11 Consortium to work jointly with consortium member Detecon International GmbH, and in collaboration with esteemed partners and stakeholders, is excited to announce the kickoff of the project “Albania, Broadband Development in White Areas in Shkodra, Kukes, Dibra, Vlora, Gjirokastra, Fier, Berat, Korçe”. The project is implemented under the EU-funded WBIF/WB24ALBDII01 Technical Assistance Grant, having as beneficiary the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy. This initiative aims to enhance broadband development and build local broadband networks in the rural areas of eight Prefectures.

The kickoff meeting, held on December 19th, brought together representatives from key organizations, including the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania, the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, the European Investment Bank, the EU Delegation in Albania, SASPAC and IFICO. This collective expertise ensures a comprehensive and collaborative approach to driving positive change in Albania’s broadband landscape.

The main goal of the project is the development of broadband networks in three North and five South Prefectures in Albania to improve digital connectivity and to strengthen the economic and social development in the country through better access in ICT. This will provide strong support for the cross-border linking of ICT infrastructure and digital integration between Western Balkan countries and the pan-European digital market.

In close collaboration with our partners, our team will conduct a feasibility study, analyzing technical requirements, identifying potential challenges and proposing practical solutions in order to assist the government in this endeavor. In this way, aconium Albania remains true to its founding mission, dedicated to supporting the public sector in matters on digitization, a core principle upon which our company was established.
